I have a double whammy for you – a photo with two interpretations of kiss AT THE SAME TIME!
I had to drag it from the vault – a black-and-white of yours truly at the age of 8 with my grandmother’s dog. On the most obvious level, I am in the process of receiving a kiss from the poodle. Yes, dangerously close to my own mouth – can’t remember how that turned out actually…
On the second level is a fond memory of my other, kinder grandmother. As you can see, I was a very freckly child. Not something that ever bothered me. I rather liked them actually. My grandma made them even more special though – she would often tell me they were brownies’ kisses (I’ve also heard them called faeries’ kisses), and they were a sign of good luck
More about this and other photo challenges can be found here.

Cute! My dog liked doing that too when I was that age, but it was usually to try to see if he could steal whatever it was I was eating at the time.
Sneaky, loveable dogs!
It occurred to me as I got older that we like to anthropomorphize animals. All these displays of love are likely something else entirely
What a great photo. Oh my you were such a cute kid Tara! I’m impressed that you were able to find it and scan it for us!
Hehe, thanks, Rosie. A blast from the past can be a fun little adventure sometimes.
I love the sound of your Grandmother
I have also heard freckles called angel kisses….
Yes, she was a lovely soul. Had a hard life, but she was always good to me.
Oh great! I’m happy to hear another version! Thanks! In actuality, I’ve seldom heard anyone refer to them as the blessings of a supernatural being, but it is a rather special thought that tickles me
Very cute photo!
Cheers!
Great photo! How cute! You remind me of Jodie Foster, like a little Becky Thatcher! I too was a freckle face but I wished too often they would go away. I like what your grandmother said, brownies’ kisses. Well, if that’s the case I was smothered in kisses!
Thanks for the smile!
Oh man! I wish I would age as well as Jodie Foster. That chick has it going on!
I’m so sorry you didn’t like your freckles. Any photos… hint, hint…?
Just now seeing this… well, I will have to go through photo albums and find one. In the meantime picture a tomboy geek in 1970′s attire! Remember colored tube socks and rugby shirts? Uhm, that was me!!! As for Jodie Foster, we could all be so lucky!!! But at least I am not still wearing colored tube socks and rugby shirts, so maybe we all really do get better with age!
Cute picture! I’m planning a dog kiss photo for my challenge, too, but am waiting til I find the right link for the animal rescue he came from. So stay tuned for more irresistible puppy cuteness!
As for the brownie kisses…never had them as a kid, but I’m getting more and more as I age. ” kisses” is far nicer than ” liver spots”!
LOL! I think I’m going to have to start labelling all signs of aging ‘kisses’. At some point, I’m going to be one massive, walking kiss.
Looking forward to more puppy passion
great pic and super backstory. Wish I’d thought to tell my daughters that.
Thanks! I hope your daughters still enjoyed the uniqueness of their freckles, though
best. kiss. ever.
You can say that again!
best. kiss. ever.
How sweet. I was a freckly child too (now a freckly adult).
Most excellent! I hope you kept some on your face – for some reason, those are the only ones I lost as I got older. And I LOVE freckle-faces
Yes, I still have them everywhere – even my ears and under my chin.
You are so lucky
